- Johannes (d.æ.) Uf. See articles by Sigvard Mahler Dam in SAXO: 1985,1986, 1987, and 1988. And the article "Strangesønnerne",Personalhistorisk tidsskrift, 1993, page 1. Johannes Uf is thought to befrom an old soldier-family, and as such acted as a "forloverne" (promisegiver); in 1299 he promised Archbishop Jens Grand free entry to København.
The following is a translation of the article "De bornholmskevæbnerslægter Uf og Splid - noget nyt om deres våbener", written bySigvard Mahler Dam, published in the Heraldisk Tidsskrift, 1982: A"Johannes dictus Wff" is the first known member of the Uf-family ismentioned in 1299 - he must be the father of the hitherto oldest knownmember. Coat of arms (våben) carrying "Niels Wf" (aka Nicolaus Wf), ismentioned with "his father" Johannes Uf in 1302.
From the "Dansk adelsvåbner, en heraldisk nøgle", by Sven Tito Achen,Politikens Forlag, 1973, København:
Uf "I". Våben: En sparre (rød i hvidt? se Heraldisk Tidsskrift nr. 23,1971, side 111). (Coat of arms: A chevron (red on white?) see H.T.)Hjelmfigur unkendt. (Helmet unknown.) Uradel, Skåne. (Noble origins:Skåne.) Niels Uf 1302; Oluf Ottesen, landsdommer på Bornholm 1522. NDAside 299.
Sigvard Mahler Dam speculates that Johannes Uf might be related to theJutlander "Sparre-Kås" families of Kaas and Lændi, which used anidentical coat of arms.
